A brave day story - Stepping into the unknown
PHOTOGRAPHY: HELEN ROSCOE RUTTER
a brave day is choosing to
Share your story
With a sense of purpose,
to inspire, educate, and challenge,
to help change the narrative
and nurture different perspectives.
It’s a desire to support people to become
more confident, healthy, and connected.
It’s a willingness to question yourself,
to be vulnerable and open your mind
to new possibilities.
It’s taking small steps each day
to explore, express, connect, and grow,
and slowly build courage to create positive change.
This film is a montage of the many brave, creative souls I have worked with over the past decade who have found the courage to step into the unknown and explore their stories through creative arts and activities. Documenting the process of their journey, overcoming their fears, finding courage and support through community, is always inspiring to witness and appreciate how it can be a powerful catalyst for change.

Hey, I’m Kirstie
Filmmaker • Storytelling Guide • Creative Encourager
I help purpose-led people share honest, human stories that create connection and spark change.
A Creative Leap
For 15 years, I worked in events and communications agencies, shaping powerful video stories—mostly for corporate clients. I had the skills, but something felt out of alignment. I wanted to support changemakers, not corporations. I wanted to be one of those changemakers myself.
So, I stepped away from the agency world and built Brave Day—a socially conscious creative storytelling business rooted in collaboration, compassion, and purpose.
"I’ve seen how storytelling can shift perspectives, build bridges, and spark healing—not just for audiences, but for the storytellers too."
The power of story, the courage to keep going
Over the past decade, I’ve worked with charities, arts organisations, educators, and health services to co-create stories around social justice, wellbeing, creativity, and community.
At the same time, I’ve faced my own challenges—navigating chronic illness, grief, and the unpredictability of freelance life. But the people I’ve met through this work have reminded me, again and again, why storytelling matters.
They’ve shown me that creativity is a life force. That our stories—told with care—can inspire, uplift, and create real change.
Brave Day today
Brave Day is still just me at its core, but I often collaborate with a trusted team of freelance creatives when projects need it.
I offer:
Simple, soulful filmmaking packages
1:1 creative storytelling sessions via Zoom
Digital courses + tools to help changemakers feel resourced and inspired
Creative partnerships for larger multi-media projects
"You don’t need a polished plan. You just need a spark of an idea and someone to walk with you through the storytelling process."
