Case Study

Laurence Bascle - storytelling coaching client

“I was looking for a creative coach who could guide me through the writing process of a complex audio-documentary series, which I had been stuck with for months.

As soon as I talked to Kirstie, I knew it was a good match: she was both curious about the content and supremely attuned to the factors that can affect the creative process (impostor syndrome, time management around life’s other demands).

Kirstie’s ability to adapt to unusual needs was remarkable, and our open communication meant the support framework evolved over time, something which is very rare.

Ultimately, Brave Day lived up to its name: it reconciled me with a sense of wonder and play in creativity and gave me the tools to gain creative resilience for the future.”

Video Storytelling skills workshops and mentoring for NHS Greater Manchester

Kirstie, Brave Day, co-delivered a one-day workshop with NHS GM that gave 10 members of the communications and digital teams a basic overview of planning video storytelling, filming and interview techniques, and how to edit content quickly on laptops or smartphones.

Kirstie is currently developing a more in-depth training digital resource for all NHS GM sub-functions to upskill their video filming and editing ability and create regular social media content aligned with campaigns and initiatives.

The resource will be a series of bite-size tutorials with accompanying PDF documents that will guide current and future employees in creating basic video storytelling content.

Kirstie will be following the resource creation with monthly mentoring via Zoom calls, creative prompts and challenges, and offering constructive and encouraging feedback on any content created by the team.

Story mapping workshops

These are workshops co-designed with you to help your team or community group explore, express, connect and grow through a storytelling project.

Workshops can be one-off or a series, co-designed to help people explore themes and issues. They combine elements of filmmaking, photography, sound, and multimedia storytelling to offer multi-sensory ways for individuals to explore their stories, both independently and in facilitated groups.

Creative prompts and gentle person-centred facilitation help people feel open and comfortable expressing themselves and connecting more deeply with others.

Workshops can be co-designed to include:

  • Video and audio storytelling skills training to empower your team to capture stories and edit them into powerful, shareable content.

  • Story mapping and structuring a narrative that weaves story elements together creates a video or audio piece with heart, integrity, and impact.

  • Supporting the creation of the storytelling project with filmmaking, audio recording, and editing.

Kirstie is accredited in Healing-Centred Design™ Principles developed by Brilliant Thing CIC, an organisation whose work helps people reflect on how stories and lived experience reside within us, how they can hold both pain and hope, and how gently exploring them can support both personal and collective healing.

Soulful, Filmmaking Packages

These are multi-media packages, which can include video, audio, photography, and motion graphics, designed to help you share the essence of your work in an authentic, human way.

Whether you’re an individual or an organisation, each piece of film or audio is shaped with compassion, care, and curiosity, creating space to tell stories that feel true, purposeful, and aligned with who you are.

The three core packages are:

  • About Me - short and soulful profile film to share the heart of who you are.

  • About Us - the story of a collective, team or community in action.

  • Story Series - documentary-style film or series, perfect for longer-term projects with complex narratives, learning, and development.

Creative storytelling for changemakers

This short film is a montage of some of the brave, creative souls I have worked with over the past decade who have found the courage to step into the unknown and explore their stories through creative arts and activities. Documenting the process of their journey, overcoming their fears, finding courage and support through community, is always inspiring to witness and appreciate how it can be a powerful catalyst for change.
